Dr Alice Self

Alice studied Medicine at University of Oxford, graduating in 2011. After Foundation training in the West Midlands she pursued her interest in global women’s health with a year working in Pakistan and South Africa. She started specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2015 in the West Midlands, but maintained links with the University of Oxford and returned to take up a Clinical Research post, in 2019 to develop low cost point of care ultrasound for pregnant women in low income settings. Whilst working in NDWRH she discovered what a fascinating area Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) is and, for two years, scanned under Professor Collins’ supervision in the Oxford FMU Placenta Clinic. She assisted in a number of surgeries of women with PAS and has also co-authored a paper on a new ultrasound marker for ruling out PAS. She hopes to continue developing this area of special interest now she’s back in training in the West Midlands.
